Melissa Rose BarrellaAssociate
Melissa was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey. She earned a Bachelor of Science in International Business and Business Administration from Lebanon Valley College and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Pace University. She earned her J.D. at Seton Hall University School of Law in 2009. Following law school, she served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Anthony J. Mellaci, Jr., J.S.C. in the Monmouth County Vicinage of the Superior Court of New Jersey. In 2010, she was admitted to practice law in the States of New Jersey and New York, as well as the Federal District Court of New Jersey.
During the early part of her career, she focused primarily on Asbestos Defense Litigation, representing manufacturers in lawsuits alleging asbestos exposure throughout the State of New York. However, for the last five years, she has practiced exclusively in the area of Family Law, representing clients in matrimonial matters, as well as custody, parenting time and child support disputes. Additionally, she specializes in Child Abuse and Neglect matters, representing parents, grandparents, foster parents and other family members involved with the Division of Child Protection & Permanency.
Ms. Barrella has previously been named one of Super Lawyers’ New Jersey Rising Stars and has also received the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys Top 10 Under 40 Award for the State of New Jersey. Additionally, Ms. Barrella was selected as one of New Jersey’s Best Lawyers for Families in New Jersey Family magazine in 2018 and 2019.
Ms. Barrella has been an Adjunct Instructor at Brookdale Community College since 2013, teaching Research and Writing.
Ms. Barrella is an active member of her church and volunteers throughout the year through the church’s many outreach programs.
Growing up, Ms. Barrella was a competitive figure skater, and still enjoys spending time on the ice and watching figure skating.
